Tyoturvallisuuskortti (Occupational Safety Card) — How to Get It in Finland?

If you plan to work on any Finnish construction site, factory floor, or industrial facility, you will need the Tyoturvallisuuskortti (Occupational Safety Card). It is a legal requirement and most employers will not let you on site without one. The good news: it takes one day, costs around 60-100 euros, and is valid for 5 years.

What Is the Safety Card?

The Tyoturvallisuuskortti is issued upon completion of a full-day (8-hour) safety training course approved by the Centre for Occupational Safety (TTK), which can be completed either at physical centers or online. It proves you understand Finnish workplace safety rules, hazard identification, and accident prevention.

Who Needs It

  • Everyone working on a construction, renovation, or industrial site in Finland
  • Sub-contractors and temporary workers sent to the client premises
  • Maintenance workers operating in shared workplaces

How to Get It

  1. Book a training course at tyoturvallisuuskortti.fi — courses run across Finland in Finnish, Swedish, and English.
  2. Attend the full-day course (approximately 8 hours).
  3. There will be a True/False exam at the end of the session, pass the test with at least 23 out of 27 correct answers.
  4. Receive your card by post within 1-2 weeks.

Cost

Typically 60-100 euros per person. Some employers pay for this as part of onboarding — ask before booking.

Get your Safety Card before applying to construction or maintenance jobs. Having it listed on your CV immediately signals you are ready to work on day one.
