FinMigrants ("we", "us", "our") operates finmigrants.com. This page explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and your rights as a visitor.

1. Who We Are

FinMigrants is an independent media publication based in Lappeenranta, Finland. We provide free guides and information for immigrants living in or moving to Finland.

2. Data We Collect

a) Data you give us voluntarily

• Newsletter sign-up: your email address. Used only to send the weekly newsletter.
• Contact form: your name, email, and message. Used only to reply to your enquiry.
• Comments: your name, email, and comment text. Email is never displayed publicly.

b) Data collected automatically

• Server logs: IP address, browser type, pages visited, timestamps. Retained for 30 days for security purposes.
• Cookies: WordPress sets a session cookie if you log in or leave a comment. We do not use tracking cookies.

c) Third-party services

• Google Fonts: fonts are loaded from Google servers. Google may log your IP. See Google's privacy policy.
• Cloudflare: our CDN provider. Processes traffic to protect the site. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
• Mailchimp: stores newsletter subscriber emails and handles delivery. See Mailchimp's privacy policy.

3. Advertising and Cookies

When advertising is active on this site, third-party vendors — including Google — use cookies, web beacons, and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website and other websites on the internet.

a) Google AdSense

Google is a third-party vendor that may serve ads on FinMigrants. Google uses cookies (including the DoubleClick DART cookie) to serve ads based on a user's visit to this site and other sites on the internet.

You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. Alternatively, you can opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising by visiting aboutads.info.

b) Consent (EU / EEA / UK users)

If you are visiting from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you will see a consent banner the first time you visit FinMigrants. Your selection controls whether personalised advertising cookies are set on your device.

c) Other advertising partners

FinMigrants may also serve clearly-labelled sponsored content from local Finnish businesses ("Local businesses" widget). These sponsorships do not place tracking cookies. Sponsored links are tagged rel="sponsored" per Google's webmaster guidelines.

4. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)

• Newsletter: consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in every email.
• Contact / comment: legitimate interest in responding to enquiries (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
• Server logs: legitimate interest in maintaining site security (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).

5. How Long We Keep Your Data

• Newsletter emails: until you unsubscribe.
• Contact form messages: up to 12 months, then deleted.
• Comments: indefinitely unless you request removal.
• Server logs: 30 days.

6. Your Rights

Under GDPR you have the right to:

• Access the data we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate data
• Request deletion ("right to be forgotten")
• Withdraw consent at any time
• Lodge a complaint with the Finnish Data Protection Ombudsman (tietosuoja.fi)

7. Data Security

All data is transmitted over HTTPS. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.

8. Children

FinMigrants is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy. The "last updated" date at the top will always reflect the current version. Continued use of the site after changes means you accept the updated policy.
