Opening a bank account in Finland as a newcomer is harder than it should be. Traditional banks run credit checks and ask for Finnish income history you do not have yet. Here is what actually works in 2026.
S-Pankki โ Best for Newcomers
S-Pankki is consistently the most accessible Finnish bank for immigrants. Monthly fee: 0 euros for students, 4 euros per month otherwise. Supports Finnish BankID โ needed for Kela, Vero, and Suomi.fi.
OP (Osuuspankki) โ Good Student Option
OP offers a solid student current account with no monthly fee. The online application works but may require a branch visit to finalize.
Nordea โ Not Recommended
Nordea is Finland largest bank but notoriously difficult for immigrants. They require Finnish income history or a Finnish co-signer. Many readers report being turned down.
Holvi โ Best Digital Option
Holvi works without a henkilotunnus. Finnish IBAN (FI prefix). Monthly fee: 9 euros. Does NOT support Finnish BankID.
Revolut โ Best Temporary Solution
Not a Finnish bank but works brilliantly as a temporary account while waiting for your henkilotunnus. Open in minutes on your phone.
Our recommendation: Day 1 open Revolut, then after henkilotunnus apply to S-Pankki or OP.
