Finnish is notoriously difficult for English speakers. That said, hundreds of immigrants reach conversational level every year in Finland. The difference is method and consistency, not raw talent.
The Honest Timeline
- A1-A2 (survival Finnish): 3-6 months of consistent study
- B1 (conversational): 1.5-2 years with regular Finnish exposure
- B2 (work-level Finnish): 3-4 years minimum for most people
